About Ira Berkowitz

Here’s what you need to know about me. Professionally, I own Monarch Communications in Millburn, NJ. Graphic design, advertising, website design, etc. You can see what we do right here: http://moncominc.com/

I grew up in Great Neck on longisland (and it is “longisland”).  For the past 24 years, I have lived in Short Hills, NJ with Linda, my wife of 30 years, our kids Allie and Zachary, and our faithful companion Cosmo, named after our favorite greasy spoon on M Street in Syracuse. Speaking of Syracuse,  I’m SU ’82, Linda is ’83, Allie is class of ’11 (and is currently seeking fame and fortune in la la land), Zach is class of ’14 (and is currently seeking fame and fortune in the music industry), even my nephew goes to SU. You might say we bleed Orange. For the past 10+ years, I have been President of the local SU alumni club: http://northjerseyorange.org/

I like to play golf, and I’m always look for new people to play with and courses to try. I used to be a big skier but only get out a couple of daze a year the past few seasons. I try to do a lot of walking as my theory is that a body in motion is a body that stays in motion. Love movies and I’m a bit of a trivia buff when it comes to entertainment. I’m on a need to know basis and use IMDB like an encyclopedia. If I really like a movie, I never grow tired of watching it. My fav of all time is Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, but if I were stuck on a desert island with only 3o minutes of entertainment to choose from, I’d pick the last 1/2 hour of Shawshank Redemption, but have to admit that Pitch Perfect has a really great last 3o minutes.

After my family, my friends are my life. If you ask them “who the most obnoxious person they know is” they will say it’s me but I very rarely loose friends. My friends know, the more I bust, the more I love them. I must be doing something right and feel very blessed in this regard.

In the spring of 2010, I launched this blog and I’m still trying to figure out what to do with it. Built this new site (with lots of help from my WordPress Guru) and hope to get many more readers. As I jokingly say with a tear in my eye, when my mom died, I lost half my readers.

I use my blog for “keyboard therapy” as I like to call it. Started out mostly airing my pet peeves of life on planet earth but have written on some serious topics as well, mostly in defense of Mother Nature, who I believe is on the verge of revolting against the human inhabitants of her planet.

If you like what you read, please spread the word so I can get thousands of readers and start making some money off this damn thing!

Okay, I happened to find you today when Classmates.,com sent me some photo you posted, and I discovered you had a blog. So I showed up and read about your colonoscopy (and I was supposed to go for mine 2…no 3…years ago). And then I popped in here.

So, since you say you have no idea what to do with your blog, I’ll tell you what to do with it, dear fellow SU classmate of ’82: book it. Turn it into a book. Or better yet, blog a book. Yes. How do I know this? Because I blogged a book about how to blog a book. LOL. It’s called…you guessed it…How to Blog a Book, Write, Publish and Promote Your Work One Post at a Time (Writer’s Digest Books 2012). Or start another to promote your business.

    Oh for a Cosmos sandwich…but not at 1 or 2 a.m.
