The 5th Anniversary Sez

April 27, 2010. That was the day the very first IraSez blog was posted. It was titled “Now What” and was all of 3 sentences long:  http://www.irasez.com/now-what/
5 years later, my posts have gotten a bit longer (some would say too long) but I still ask myself the same question….now what?

Over the post 5 years, there have been some themes that definitely seem to have stood out in many of my posts. First, airline travel makes me crazy but is great inspiration. I don’t understand carry-on baggage rules, how planes are boarded, and why passengers of a certain size are allowed to sit in the same size seat as me when it’s abundantly clear that they need more than one seat.

Another recurring them, which I’m thinking will be a more frequent topic as during the next run for the White House, is common sense politics. I’m not a big believer in the 2 party system, as I think it’s broken being repair. I’d like to start my own political party – The Common Sense Party. If any of you know someone who’s got a few hundred million dollars lying around, let me know. I’d like to discuss my ideas with them. Of course, someone who’s willing to give me that kind of money to start a Common Sense Party probably doesn’t have that much common sense to begin. That’s a problem…don’t you think?

Than there’s my sometimes muse – Mother Nature. She is my constant source of amusement, dread, awe, bewilderment, and much, much more. Most importantly, she is a great source of inspiration. I’ve said it once and I will say it again, Ma is revolting against the human inhabitants of the Planet Earth. This past weekend is a prime example. Earthquakes, volcano eruptions, freak storms in Alabama, coyotes roaming the streets of New York City. Believe me, I feel terrible about the loss of life and I’m in no way, shape or form trying to belittle or demean those losses. All I’m saying is it seems that natural disasters are on the rise, and that sometimes there are so many fatalities because humans are places they are not supposed to be. Don’t build houses on barrier islands; don’t build houses at the bases of a mountain where you have fires, followed by rain, followed by mudslides; don’t build malls, condos, office buildings next to a river that floods…all the time…the river doesn’t know the difference between concrete and flood plain. When you fight Mother Nature, you are going to lose.

So now what? Maybe I’ll find another muse, another person to help start the Common Sense Party, more people to make fun of at airports. Maybe I’ll get arrested for yelling at folks who drive and text, or don’t stop at the crosswalk next to Dunkin’ Donuts (and I have witnesses).  But what I’d really like most, is more readers; to spread the joy that is IraSez; and to find someone who will pay me to write for them. Is that too much too ask?
