Oh the hypocrisy

In 2007, Don Imus made some pretty controversial remarks about the Rutgers women’s basketball team, which created quite a backlash, and the Iman ended up being fired. 2006 RU graduate and professional basketball player Cappie Pondexter released a statement condemning Mr. Imus.

4 years later, here’s what Ms. Pondexter had to say on Twitter about the disaster in Japan: “What if God was tired of the way they treated their own people in there own country! Idk guys he makes no mistakes.” She also tweeted “u just never knw! They did pearl harbor so u can’t expect anything less.”

Is she kidding? Blaming the Japanese for the earthquake and stating that this was the will of God. Ms. Pondexter I’m here to tell you that your God does mistakes and you are living proof. Proof of racial intolerance, proof that religion can be twisted for unholy purposes and proof that there is no place in this world for the shit that you spew. My only hope is that the WNBA and New York Liberty take your hypocritical ass and drop it right into the middle of Japan to serve your penance.  The closer to one of the damaged nuclear reactors the better. Your personality is radioactive and it would be nice if the rest of you was too.

I can think of no more fertile ground for baseless inflammatory statements than Twitter. It is the CB radio of this generation. No real communication happens there, yet it has become the measure of one’s ability to communicate. Also, it seems very silly that we treat professional athletes, entertainers, and the “media journalists” (read bad actor/face for the small screen) as though they were the great thinkers of our time. Sad news all around.
